Supporting your pastures after fire – rebuilding soils from the ground up

Many people have been impacted by the devastating bushfires that have torn through various parts of Victoria over the past two months. This has been a particularly difficult time for those affected, losing homes, sheds, machinery, livestock and seeing their land scorched. But we know farmers are resilient, and many are looking to build their lives and their farms back up again.

After a bushfire, the focus is naturally on getting green cover back into paddocks as quickly as possible. But as many landholders know, fire doesn’t just remove pasture — it can fundamentally change what’s happening in the soil beneath it.

Extreme heat can strip soils of nitrogen and sulphur, disrupt phosphorus availability, damage soil structure, and dramatically reduce beneficial soil biology. While ash can give a short-term lift in potassium and calcium, it doesn’t restore the living systems that healthy pastures depend on.

Long-term recovery is about more than regrowth. It’s about rebuilding soil function — restoring biology, nutrient cycling, and the vital relationships between roots and soil.

That’s where BioAg can help.

BioAg Soil & Seed is designed to support fire-affected soils during the critical recovery phase. It delivers a concentrated blend of beneficial microorganisms and microflora, along with biostimulants that help kick-start nutrient cycling, encourage root development, and speed up the breakdown of organic matter. Applied at sowing or during early regrowth, it helps pastures establish stronger roots, improve vigour, and better cope with the stress that often follows fire, when moisture and nutrients can be limited.

Phosphorus availability is another common challenge after a bushfire. Changes in soil chemistry and reduced biological activity can leave phosphorus locked up when plants need it most. BioAgPhos provides a slow-release, biologically mediated phosphorus source that works with soil recovery, not against it. As soil biology rebuilds, phosphorus becomes progressively available, supporting sustained root growth and dry matter production over time — without the losses often associated with soluble phosphates.

Used together, Soil & Seed and BioAgPhos form a practical, complementary recovery approach. One helps rebuild the biological engine of your soil, while the other provides a stable, long-term phosphorus reserve to support pasture establishment and persistence.

Rather than chasing short-term growth, this strategy focuses on restoring soil health and resilience — helping set your paddocks up for productive recovery not just this season, but well into the future.
